Meet Vesta
The name "Vesta" comes from the Roman Goddess of the hearth, home and family.
She is the spirit of the home that has helped develop humanity since Ancient Roman Times. She welcomed guests, warmed the home, prepared meals, beautified it and those who lived in it, and kept the spirit of the family alive. The hearth and keeping it burning was considered the sacred place of the home. Without Vesta, a home and family are mere containers....
“Ama la vita così com'è” means “to love life just as it is” in Italian. This became my anthem quite a few years ago as I struggled to understand why my life hadn’t turned out exactly how I wanted it to. How much I was grieving the losses of what had not come to be despite great determination and unhealthy perseverance. I decided I would love life just as it was in each moment.
This was a bit of a new beginning for me. The sacred moments of the present (yes I know how cliché that sounds) unfolded before my eyes and through even the hardest moments, I decided to say “yes” to life.
With this new motto, no longer did I mindlessly press a button to make coffee or microwave leftovers. I began to use the same stove top espresso maker my Nana made coffee in every morning, and the kettle on the stove the way my mother still does for tea. I watch them steam and listen for the sound letting me know it’s ready. I offer gratitude as I pour and think of the connection I feel to women from my past and the women all over the world starting their day with something warm and comforting too. This is “Vesta” to me – bringing spirit, life, into the ordinary.
I believe our homes and how we show up for ourselves and all of life should reflect who we are, where we come from, and how we envision ourselves to unfold. I believe life is an absolute gift and what we surround ourselves with should enhance the gift it is. In a world of mass production, I believe in embracing the slow-down and spirit of the spaces we inhabit and the textures we put on our skin.
At Vesta - Home, Life, Clothing, I have curated products coming from artists, creators, idealists, and businessmen and women who believe in intentional living and more sustainable products to elevate the gift of our lives and what we surround ourselves with. We have both old and new here with focus on quality, responsibility, and grounding beauty. I embody “Vesta” now and offer this to our community through our shop and design services. Please come by, slow down, and simply be present.
With love,
Francesca
